Bone Densitometry

Bone density scanning, also called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA) or bone densitometry, is an enhanced form of x-ray technology. DEXA is today's established standard for measuring bone mineral density (BMD). Our state of the art bone densitometry machine can measure the density of your spine in order to screen for osteoporosis and other bone loss conditions.

You will be asked to wear loose fitting clothing with no metal components (i.e. zippers, belts, underwire bras).  You will lie on your back, on a table in a comfortable position for several minutes while the scan is performed.  Your provider will review the scan and generally get back to you within one week.
